What counts as a dental emergency?
- Severe toothache or pain that keeps you up at night
- Knocked-out tooth (adult or child)
- Broken, cracked or chipped tooth

What to do before you arrive
Knocked-out tooth: hold it by the crown (the white part), not the root. Rinse gently with water, and either place it back in the socket or keep it in a small container of milk. Call us immediately — the sooner you are seen, the better the chance of saving the tooth.
Broken or chipped tooth: rinse your mouth with warm water, save any pieces, and apply a cold compress to the outside of your cheek to reduce swelling.
Toothache or swelling: rinse with warm salt water and use a cold compress. Avoid placing painkillers directly on the gum. If you have swelling with fever or difficulty breathing or swallowing, go to the nearest hospital emergency department.
